Create [Space] Wyndham Harbour x Wyndham City Council

Victoria's western plains are home to an incredible variety of indigenous plants, many of which have characteristics that make them potentially suitable for handmade paper-making. The Create [Space] residency at Wyndham Harbour, organised by Wyndham City Council, provided an opportunity to explore the handmade paper-making potential of a number of these plant species.
Plant species that were tested included: common tussock, kangaroo and coastal spear grasses, knobby club and spiny mat rushes, she-oke, pig face and lemon beauty heads. These indigenous plant fibres produced papers with a beautiful variety of textures and colours.

The effectiveness of the resulting papers as substrates for charcoal/pencil drawing and water colour painting was also explored, as well as for use in paper-mache sculpting.
