Embroidering onto paper can feel like life- the layers of paper can be so tough that it is difficult to get a needle through without injury. At other times it is so fragile that it disintegrates during the stitching process resulting in cycles of making and mending. The colours of the eco-printed, naturally dyed papers shift and fade so that marks and stitches begin to look like blemishes, scars or even tattoos. Paper wrinkles, creases like skin and takes on the appearance of age. The surface tells a story and reveals a history of its own.

I acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land on which I live and create, the Boonwurrung people of the Kulin Nation, and I pay my respects to Elders past and present.
